2021/04/21 - Al-Jazeera - General Mahamat Idriss Deby, 37, will take over as president after death of his father, Idriss Deby. Idriss ruled Chad for 30+ years, he was re-elected April 2021, and killed 2 weeks later fighting rebels on the front lines. His son has assumed Military control and suspended the constitution until a new election can be conducted.
2021/04/20 - NBC - Chad* Idriss Deby, one of the longest reigning presidents in African history, is killed fighting on the front line against Libyan Rebels. 2 weeks earlier he had been elected to a 12-year term (2033) having reigned since 1990 (31 years). It is unclear if he was killed by Boko Haram, ISIS Sahel or Al-Qaeda. He has long been a Western ally in the fight against jihad in Saharan Africa.
2021/04/20 - Africa News - Chad - Idriss Deby Itno, President of Chad since 1990, was killed in battle fighting Libyan rebels. He assumed power in 1990, storming the Capital city, N'Djamena, the same way he was killed, 30 years later. He overthrew the previous ruler, Hissene Habre, in power since 1982. Chad was a former Colony of France, and is their biggest ally in West Africa and strongest ally against Jihadi terrorists in the Sahel.
